Student's presented a presentation on research topics outside the course syllabus. This usually involved students reading a few journal articles and making a presentation on it. Along with the instructor, all the students assigned a score for each presentation from 1 to 10. Such a grading process encouraged all students to attentively listen to the presentation of their peers. Presentations were made on the following topics:


  1. Surface tension used by shore birds - a capillary rachet
  2. Capillary action in small jets impinging on liquid surfaces
  3. Contact angle measurement techniques
  4. Walking droplets
  5. Elastocapillary effects
  6. Humming bird's tongue is a fluid trap
  7. Drops and bubbles in the environment
  8. Cheerios effect
  9. Surface tension driven passive micro pumps
