Research Interests

I am interested in phase transformations and microstructural evolution, mostly during solidification processing of metallic alloys. Welding metallurgy, or more specifically, that in relation to fusion welding of dissimilar metals, has been one of my major focus. Using structural characterization tools like X-ray diffraction and electron microscopy, we try to gain insight into liquid–>solid and solid–>solid phase transformations during processing. I am also interested in developing mathematical models which can help us understand the macroscopic transport at one end and microstructure formation on the other. The grand challenge, of course, remains to link these together in a satisfactory fashion.

Keywords: Welding Metallurgy, Transmission Electron Microscopy, Diffraction, Thermal Analysis, Phase Field Models, Finite Element and Finte Volume Methods.
