My area of specialization is quantum field theory, string theory, and general relativity. My current research concerns non-perturbative approaches to quantum gravity/string theory such as AdS/CFT, (M)atrix Theory, Higher Spin (Chern-Simons) gravity. These approaches are inherently "holographic" (the Holographic principle is the deepest insight to have emerged since the 1990's and is now recognized to be the underlying principle of quantum gravity). These holographic dual field theories describe the dynamics of the gauge-invariant degrees of freedom of quantum gravity. My work attempts to use these dual field theory descriptions to understand issues such as: how a quasilocal bulk spacetime emerges, how to recover/describe regions inside black hole horizons and how do gravitational singularities get resolved. I am also interested in nonabelian gauge theories, lower dimensional toy models of gravity and quantum descriptions of cosmology. Here is a link to my publications.
