I have spent a fare amount of time behind various types of photography. Over the years I am more into landscape photography, especially during dusk. We get excellent light twice a day - sunrise and sunset. It is very important to stick to the soft light. Variable ND filters and CPL filters can help in this regard. DSLR cameras are very close to research microscopes and PIV cameras. One can learn and customize the microscope if one knows how a camera function and in difficult situations when soft lights are not available how to get around difficulties. Normally filters and hood help a lot.
B&W photography is a completely different experience. If one need to take B&W photographs, it is always better to use a B&W camera for it. An awesome camera that I have used is PCO Pixelfly. It is a CCD camera mostly used in PIV. With color cameras which are mostly CMOS, it is better to use yellow or orange filters. There are other back and white filters available but I find these are better than the others. There always a better and pricey solution available for lens filters. I prefer coated filters. One may face difficulties related to filter diameters since they are available in various sizes. It is preferable to use a 67mm or 77mm filter with adapters for smaller lenses.
I normally like to work around the flare of sun rather than the soft brightness of it. During last 10 years I roamed around various places and depending on weather & atmospheric conditions, I tried to make the best out of it. Like Mumbai (MH,India) skyline is very clean right after a splash of rain and that helps in scattered clouds walk past the sun and it gives fare amount of detail in the picture.
Ithaca (NY,USA) remain very high on my list of great destination. The sky is absolutely clean and even in bright light with the help of a filter it is possible to take a picture with lot of details.
Once you're ready to get out of this sample project and edit your own code, you can use the drop-down
in the left sidebar to switch folders. Right now, the drop-down says "Getting Started" - that's the
folder containing the file you're looking at right now. Click on the drop-down and choose "Open Folder…"
to open your own folder.
You can also use the dropdown later to switch back to folders you've opened previously, including this
sample project.
When I visited the Palace of Fine Arts in San Fran.(CA, USA), I was stunned by the light and structure. The palace is made out of yellow rocks and the light that is glowing from the bottom highlights the details of the structure. There no way one can capture the structural marvels of Palace of Fine Arts. I snapped a picture and said WOW !!
And you can't beat the sunset at Golden Gate.
Philadelphia has been a constant source of inspiration. Here is a picture from the epic Arts Museum.

My experience as an administrator is fairly limited. I was a system administrator for 3 years during my graduate study. I am mostly experienced in Fedora Linux Administration. I truly believe that Linux can be introduced to undergrads or postgrads for documentation and analysis purposes. Over the years it has been significantly easier to deal with various packages and dependencies in Linux although I must admit that gnome3 has been an unpleasant and depressing experience for me.
If we maintain a repository for various latex documents like letterhead, thesis sample, latex presentation and poster etc. and train the students to start using it, one can move on with Linux alone.
I am planning to create an open-source project for procurement listing, educational templates for various documents, website making and codes related to scientific computation. Let us know what you think, share your ideas or contribute directly to the project.
