Research Synopsis
IC piracy, overbuilding and reverse engineering have become major challenges for semiconductor and defence industries. HW security aims to thwart the piracy, overbuilding and RE by obfuscating and/or camouflaging.
HW random number generators (HWRNG) can be of potential use for encryption and cryptographic mechanisms as SW RNG are more vulnerable to RE attacks. Also due to increase in number of interconnected devices due to advent of IoT, the demand of the time is to protect the data of these interconnected nodes. So Instruction Set Randomisation (ISR) can thwart the code-injection attacks on processors.
